Calling All Alumni

The Selkirk School is putting together a comprehensive list of graduates and their contact information. Our goal would be to let alumni know of important Selkirk events, publications, and updates.

Primarily we would like to collect email addresses to take advantage of the benefits of electronic communication (instantaneous, no postage fee, provides two-way communication options), however, postal address would be fine too. If you graduated from either Selkirk, Ione, or Metaline Falls High School and have an email or address that you would like share, please email us at nlotze@selkirk.k12.wa.us or mail your information to Selkirk School District, P.O. Box 129, Metaline Falls, WA 99153. Please mark "alumni info" in the subject line or on the envelope.

If you have organized your class reunion and feel comfortable sharing your contact list, please email or mail the information to the school district at the addresses listed above. Our goal is to create a list of 1500 alumni who are, hopefully, interested in hearing news from their old alma mater! Please help us reach our goal and send your information. Be sure to include your graduation year!

Where Are They Now?

In addition to our project to collect alumni contact information, the next edition of the Selkirk Success will feature a new column. We hope the Alumni Update will become a place where graduates can post information regarding life events that they would like to share.

Not only will the column serve as a chance to keep those at home up-to-date with your life, but it is also a chance for current students to read about the successes of our past graduates.

We will try to publish everything we receive but ask that the information be submitted by the graduate. So, let us help you share news about events in your life. We are interested in hearing about the following:

Graduations
Honors
New Job or Promotions
Birth of child
Marriage

Please send your news to the
district office or email it to nlotze@selkirk.k12.wa.us  and we will include the information in the next edition of the Selkirk Success. The newspaper is published four times per year and bulk-mailed to all households. Past and present editions are also posted on the district website at: www.selkirk.k12.wa.us

STATE TESTING
SPRING 2010 TEST DATES
MSP: Test Administration Dates
(Grades 3-8)

Beginning in spring 2010, the testing window for the Measures of Student Progress (MSP) for grades 3-8 is scheduled between Monday, May 10 through Friday, June 4. The school district can offer make-up dates for students who miss the designated times but, if possible, we ask that you schedule around the test dates. Each classroom teacher will choose a testing calendar specific to that grade. The grade-level testing calendar will be provided to parents through the weekly classroom newsletter in April 2010.

HSPE: Test Administration Dates
(Grades 10, 11, 12)

The dates for the High School Proficiency Exam (HPSE) are state-designated and mandatory. The school district has no leeway in offering retake opportunities to students grades 10-12 if students miss these dates. At this point, it is not clear if August retake dates will be offered in 2010 so we encourage you to plan around these dates if possible.

Reading: Tuesday, March 16 (one 120-minute session);
Writing: Wednesday, and Thursday, March 17-18 (two 120-minute sessions);
Mathematics: Tuesday, April 13 (one 120-minute session); and
Science: Thursday, April 15 (one 120-minute session).

The 2010 assessment will include shorter tests, requiring fewer test administration sessions than previous year’s tests. Except for Writing, subject area tests in elementary grades are single-session tests taking approximately 75 minutes each. For middle school grades, subject area tests are single session tests taking approximately 90 minutes each. For high school grades, subject area tests are approximately 120 minutes each. All tests are still untimed, as students will be able to continue to work if they need more time.
